India has the highest incidence of oral cancer. National Oral Health Programme is an initiative of the Indian Dental Association (IDA) that is targeted at improving oral health which is highly essential to general health and well-being. This initiative was started to march towards achieving optimal oral health by the year 2020. This aim is translated into Tobacco Intervention Initiative, Oral Cancer Foundation and child dental centres.
IDA is committed to developing a coherent 24*7 urgent care services all over India. IDA also has set up National Oral Cancer Registry which targets dental clinics and hospitals that collect systematically cancer related data so as to generate high quality data in terms of magnitude and patterns of oral cancer and facilitate the planning, controlling and evaluating cancer-control activities
